The Irish Studies Association of Australia and New Zealand are pleased to announce the joint winners of the 2017 ISAANZ Postgraduate Essay Prize:
Jimmy Yan for his essay titled “The ‘Liverpool Incident’: Irish Diasporality, the November 1915 Conscription Crisis and the Origins of Wartime British Passport Controls”;
and Brandi Byrd for her essay titled “‘To Know This, and In Shame Turn Away’: Institutional Abuse and the Ethics of Witnessing in Paul Murray’s ‘Skippy Dies'”.
The essays were chosen from a strong field of entries from Australia, Ireland, United Kingdom and the United States. The judging panel was very impressed with the overall quality of essays submitted.
The winning entries will be published in Australasian Journal of Irish Studies Volume 17 in June 2017.
