The history of the Irish language in Aotearoa New Zealand from 1840 to the present day

ABSTRACT
This free event will look at the history, use and records of the Irish language in Aotearoa New Zealand over the last 160 years, with a presentation of research by Diarmaid Coffey, Cathaoirleach of Conradh na Gaeilge Aotearoa. Everyone welcome! Presentation will be in English, but discussion welcome in Irish or English.

SPEAKER
Dr Diarmaid Coffey is originally from Kerry and has been living in New Zealand for nearly 20 years now. With the support of the Irish Embassy and people in New Zealand he started a branch of Conradh na Gaeilge, to promote the Irish language in Australasia.
