A night of conversation and music with
HE Ambassador Tim Mawe, Irish Ambassador to Australia

In advance of St Patrick’s day, the Celtic Club has the honour of hosting Irish Ambassador to Australia HE Tim Mawe for an evening of conversation, music and fun at the prestigious Woodward Room, in Melbourne University. The theme of the evening is “Irish Melbourne: Then and Now.” The evening will be centred around a lively 30-minute panel discussion on the Irish history of this great city and some reflection on the current relationship between Ireland and Australia.  The Ambassador will be joined by Professor Dianne Hall, and historian Val Noone. The discussion will be moderated by Professor Ronan McDonald.

HE Tim Mawe is the Ambassador of Ireland to Australia. He has previously served as Regional Director for Asia Pacific in Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs, Ireland’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, as Ambassador to Latvia and as Head of Finance and Head of Planning for Ireland’s last EU Presidency.  

Dianne Hall is Professor of History at Victoria University Melbourne. Along with Elizabeth Malcolm, she is the author of A New History of the Irish in Australia (2018). She is editor of the Australian Journal of Irish Studies.

Val Noone is born and bred in Melbourne of people who came from Ireland 150 years ago. He is the author of Hidden Ireland in Victoria.

Ronan McDonald  holds the Gerry Higgins Chair of Irish Studies at Melbourne University. He is Vice President of the Irish Studies Association of Australia and New Zealand. He is also Vice President of the Celtic Club.

Cost: $20 Members and $40 non-members. Delicious finger food and drinks will be included in the registration price. There will be music throughout the evening. This is an evening not to be missed! Dress code: Smart casual

There are pickup and drop off points right out the front of Melbourne Law School on 185 Pelham St, Carlton. The Woodward Centre is on level 10. Public parking is located along Royal Parade on UoM
grounds and is around a 5 minute walk to The Woodward. Berkeley St also has public parking which is close to The Woodward, as well as 2-4 hour parking surrounding University House at The Woodward. University Square Car Park also has parking at 244 Bouverie Street or 206 Berkeley Street from Monday – Sunday 6:00am to 10:00pm.
