Call for Papers: ISAANZ 26 Disruptions and Transitions
12-14 December 2023, Australian Catholic University, Melbourne
From the recent disruptions of the pandemic to those of emigration and diaspora, Irish history and literature include both large-scale and personal divergences from anticipated futures. These disruptions have initiated transitions to new cultural, political, social, and disciplinary terrains that are often connected to Australia and New Zealand.
For ISAANZ 26, the convenors welcome papers on any aspect of Ireland, Irish Australia or Irish New Zealand, or the Irish diaspora generally. In particular, we invite papers addressing the themes of disruption and transition through topics that might include:
- Crossing scales of reference, from local, national, regional, and global
- Emigration, immigration, and diaspora
- Transnationalism and Irish studies
- Trauma, memory, and affect
- Women’s histories and literatures
- Histories of modernism and the new modernist studies
- Commemoration and the present
- Indigeneity and Irish studies
- Relationships between postcolonialism and ecocriticism
- Borders, sovereignty, and citizenship
- Irish studies and the digital or medical humanities
- Oceans and islands
- Queer literatures and histories
- Interdisciplinarity in Irish studies
- Religious and secular worlds
- Imagined homelands and imagined futures
Proposals for papers, including a title and an abstract of no more than 150 words, should be emailed to conference26@isaanz.org . The extended closing date for abstracts is 16 June 2023. Proposals for themed sessions would also be welcomed. Conference participants will have the option to present their paper online or to deliver it face to face.
